  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, freshly shredded
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley or 1 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, garlic powder, onion powder (if using), salt, and cayenne pepper (if using).
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Fold in the cheddar cheese until evenly distributed.
  5. In another bowl, mix buttermilk and egg until smooth; then combine with dry ingredients without overmixing.
  6. Spoon dough into the prepared pan in chunky layers.
  7. Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Brush warm loaf with melted butter mixed with garlic powder and parsley before cooling for 10 minutes.
